Senior School Programme (Years 11-13)

At our school, the senior years are a pivotal time of growth, discovery, and preparation. Our dedicated programme for students in Years 11, 12, and 13 is designed to provide a rich and supportive environment where every student can achieve their full potential, explore their passions, and confidently plan for their future.

NCEA and Academic Excellence

We are committed to guiding our students through the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) at every level. With a strong focus on NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3, our experienced teachers work closely with students to ensure they gain the qualifications they need for their chosen pathways. Our curriculum is tailored to meet individual needs, providing a solid academic foundation while also allowing students to specialize in areas of interest.

Trades and Vocational Pathways

For our Year 12 and 13 students seeking practical, hands-on learning, we offer a range of vocational opportunities. Through our highly valued partnership with the NMIT Trades Academy, students can gain real-world skills and qualifications in various trade areas. We also provide Gateway opportunities, where students can gain practical work experience and earn credits in a workplace environment, giving them a head start on their careers and a clear line of sight to a future in the trades.

Leadership and Service

We believe in the power of student leadership and provide a wide range of opportunities for our senior students to develop these crucial skills. All Year 12 and 13 students participate in a leadership overnight camp at the beginning of the year to build teamwork and prepare them for the challenges ahead. This training equips them for roles such as school prefects, house leaders, and peer mentors. A key aspect of this is the opportunity for senior students to get involved in coaching younger year groups, fostering a culture of mentorship and service within the school community.

Planning for the Future

We place a strong emphasis on helping our students plan for life after school. Our Year 11 students take part in an annual camp to Christchurch, where they get to visit tertiary institutions and explore a variety of career and study opportunities. This trip is designed to inspire them and help them make informed decisions as they begin to set their sights on future academic or vocational pathways.

Personalised Learning Environment

One of the greatest strengths of our senior school is our small class sizes. This allows our teachers to provide a high level of personalized attention and support, ensuring every student is well-supported in their coursework. This close-knit environment fosters strong relationships, encourages questions, and allows for tailored teaching that helps each student succeed academically.

The senior years at our school are about more than just academics; they are about preparing students to be confident, capable, and well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive impact on their communities.
